Responding to Power-based Personal Violence, Mandatory Reporting, and Vicarious Trauma

  • Presented by The Ion Center for Violence Prevention, this program provides an overview of power-based personal violence, strategies for responding to and reporting client disclosures of violence, and methods for preventing and managing vicarious trauma.

    The second of a two-part program, this session briefly reviews the definitions, dynamics, and effects of partner violence, sexual violence, and other types of power-based personal violence. Participants will engage in activities and discussions that explore responding to disclosures of violence by clients or staff members. Mandatory reporting requirements and trauma-informed strategies for reporting are included. This program will also discuss vicarious trauma experienced by professionals working with clients who face violence, and methods for preventing and managing vicarious trauma.
