Issue 3 Resources from Healthy Policy Institute of Ohio

The Health Policy Institute of Ohio has launched a page on its website dedicated to providing Ohioans with a non-partisan source for resources and information about state ballot Issue 3, which would legalize marijuana use in the state.

In 2015, three interest groups submitted initiative petitions to the Ohio Attorney General’s office to place a constitutional amendment legalizing medical and recreational marijuana use on the statewide ballot. One of these groups, ResponsibleOhio, succeeded in getting sufficient signature support to get the issue on the November 2015 ballot.

There may be considerable impacts to health policy and health outcomes in Ohio should the ballot issue pass. The resource page is intended to help interested voters and policymakers understand the policy and health issues surrounding marijuana legalization in Ohio.

“The purpose of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio is to provide state policymakers with the information and analysis they need to make informed health policy,” said HPIO President Amy Rohling McGee. “In the case of a ballot initiative, the voters are the policymakers and given that Issue 3 is a health policy-related issue, we wanted to make unbiased information and analysis accessible to Ohio voters.”
