    Childhood and Adolescent Brain Development

    This will lecture will cover the maturation of the human brain from childhood through adolescence and the factors that both promote and hinder optimal maturation and functioning in brain cells. Participants will learn how substance use, trauma, sleep, nutrition, creativity, exercise  impacts the neural pathways that affect memory and mood.  Learn to identify the hippocampus and its functions; explain periods of rapid brain development; list three substances that have the most impact on the development of the hippocampus; list three to five activities that promote optimal brain maturation; and explain trauma and adversity in childhood as a factor that can significantly impact the progression of mental illness and substance use. CEU approval sources: Ohio Counselor and Social Worker CPE hours approved, #RCST111001 (valid until November 30, 2017), by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker & Marriage and Family Therapist Board; KY Board of Social Work Continuing education sponsorship number  KBSWSP2015030 (valid until July 31, 2016).
