    Foundations of Religious Diversity for Counselors and Social Workers, Part 1 - Christianity

    This course is an introduction to spirituality and religion as a component of cultural competence for counselors and social workers. Participants will develop an understanding of the need for religious diversity in counseling and social work, based on research findings; acquire basic knowledge of the history of religious diversity in the US, from past to present with an emphasis on the varieties of belief, ritual, and practice across the many religious traditions that self-identify as Christian; and acquire some of the basic knowledge surrounding belief and practice essential for those working with clients who identify as Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Mainline Protestant, Evangelical Protestant, Fundamentalist Protestant, Pentecostal, Latter-Day Saints, Jehovah’s Witness, or Seventh Day Adventist. CEU approval sources: Ohio Counselor and Social Worker CPE hours approved, #RCS030401 (valid until November 2015), by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker & Marriage and Family Therapist Board; KY Board of Social Work Continuing education sponsorship number KBSWSP2015030 (valid until 7/31/2016). Successful completion of this offering includes attending the entire offering and completion of evaluation. If you arrive late or leave early continuing education provider does not constitute endorsement of program content. Course content aimed at intermediate level. Focus areas: Professional Counselor Theory, Counseling Techniques, Social/Cultural finds, Clinical Counseling Methods/Interventions/Prevention;  Social Work SW Methods and Special Populations; Marriage and Family Therapy: Appraisal of Individuals and Families. Course content aimed at Social Workers seeking an introductory instructional level. 3 hours credit approval for session.
